NEW RIVERS RESTAURANT

New Rivers Restaurant located at the historic Steeple Street Complex in downtown Providence, RI expanded on the first and second floors with a new dining area, private function space, bar, office, and restrooms. The building is considered Providence’s oldest surviving industrial building on record (built between 1828 -1847). Based on historic photographs, the renovation of the building restored original details lost or replaced over time. The renovated storefront matches proportions from historic storefront. Original wood windows were kept and restored where possible and replicated where needed. Metal shutters were also reproduced based on photographs. Existing hardwood floors were refinished and heavy timber structure was exposed. The columns at the bar were turned from heavy timbers that had to be removed for the addition of a code compliant stair tower.
